Spartans Take Down Pioneers in Home Opener
Tampa, Fla. – The University of Tampa Spartans women's soccer team defeated the Tusculum University Pioneers in their home opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Half: Junior Quinn Knapp opened the game for the Spartans in the 9th minute, her first goal of the season. Soon after, in the 11th minute, junior Stephanie DeLaforcade recorded her first career goal as a Spartan with an assist by Katherine Hostage. In the 16th minute, with the perfect pass from sophomore Brooke Steigerwalt, junior Elena Barr pushed past the Pioneer defense, netting the third goal of the half. Score: 3-0 Tampa
Second Half: Tampa continued pressing the Pioneers into the second half. In the 57th minute, Madison McElhone found the back of the net off an exceptional pass from Hostage. Hostage contributed to the lead, registering her first goal as a Spartan in the 61st minute. McElhone further extended the lead to six a minute later, her third on the season. Late in the second half, freshman Olivia Dubuc cataloged her first career goal after sliding one past the Pioneers goalkeeper. In the final moments of the second half, Sophie Shrader registered the final goal for the Spartans, assisted by Sydni Dennis. Score: 8-0 Tampa
INSIDE THE STATS:
- The Spartans had four players score their first career goal: Hostage, DeLaforcade, Dubac, and Shrader.
- Michelle Kanaskie and Alex Steigelfest recorded two shots apiece.
- Three Spartans played the entire 90 minutes Lovisa Camel, Reni Taiwo, and Erin McCarthy.
- Camel finished the game with five saves.
