Tampa Defeats Embry-Riddle With Pair of First-Half Goals

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's soccer team notched its second victory of the week and third straight contest in a 2-1 win over Embry-Riddle University.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

FIRST HALF: Starting off the half, Lovisa Camel logged her first save stopping a shot off the head of an Eagle attacker (8'). A corner kick by Stephanie deLaforcade set the Spartans up for their first goal by Elena Barr, assisted by Jackie Morris (10'). The Spartan attack did not let up with 2 shots on goal by Katherine Hostage (11')(21'). Camel protected the narrow lead with another save (22'). Jalyssa Richardson earned her first goal of the season charging at the Eagles' keeper and sending the ball to the back of the net (38'). With minuets left in the half, Embry-Riddle made one more attempt to score but were again denied by Camel (43'). With a secure Tampa lead, the half ended 2-0  

SECOND HALF: Camel added another save (49') but was defeated when a Tampa foul (51') gave Embry-Riddle a penalty kick pushing the score to 2-1. Morris attempted a hat trick shot but the ball was saved by the Eagle's keeper (53'). deLaforcade made her own attempt to score at (76') (81'). The Eagles made one more attempt to close the Tampa lead but the shot was blocked by Camel. Tampa won 2-1. 

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Camel has long surpassed her record for saves with a remarkable 28 on the season thus far

• The Eagles and the Spartans both had four shots on goal
