Rollins Held Hostage by Spartan Attack

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's soccer team defeated the Rollins College Tars in their return to Pepin Stadium after two games on the road. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:  

Final Score: Tampa Spartans 2, Rollins Tars 1

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

FIRST HALF: The match started with both teams having back and forth opportunities to open the game. The half's lone goal came in the 21st minute as a free kick was awarded to the Tars. Valeria Acevedo found the back of the net off the restart. Katherine Hostage nearly headed in the equalizer off of a corner delivered from Stephanie DeLaforcade, the header hitting the crossbar (34'). Spartans completed the half with five shots, the Tars registering eight.  

SECOND HALF: Spartans applied pressure early in the second half. Hostage and Elena Barr registered a shot apiece within the first five minutes of the half. Megan Hessel stopped the Tars as they attempted to extend their lead in the 56th minute, recording her third save on the night. Shortly after, Hostage put the Spartans on the board and tied the game, receiving the ball from DeLaforcade. Both teams put up several opportunities in the minutes to follow. Hostage slipped one past the Tars goalkeeper, netting the game-winner in the 82nd minute on a ball that Barr assisted. 

INSIDE THE STATS:  

• Hessel made her first career start for the Spartans, recording five saves in the match. 

• Both teams tallied 16 shots in the match. 

• Hostage recorded nine shots on the night. 

• Seven Spartans played the entire 90 minutes.
