
Tampa falls to No. 21 Catawba College in season opener
SAILSBURY, N.C. – The University of Tampa women's soccer team lose season opener to No. 21 Catawba College.

All-time series: Tampa leads the series 2-1 with their last win being in 1999 with a final overtime score of 3-2. This will be Tampa and Catawba's first matchup in 23 years.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
FIRST HALF: The first half started with Tampa getting on the board first. Around the 6th minute, Katherine Hostage scored the first goal of the season with help from Madison McElhone. Tampa attempted five shots with one shot on goal. Hostage led the team with two shots. Despite there being nine fouls called between both teams Tampa's defense still managed to keep the tempo going and end the first half in front. Score: 1-0 (Tampa)
SECOND HALF: Catawba came into the second half looking for redemption scoring within the first 30 seconds tying the game at one. Tampa was caught off guard and tried fighting back but couldn't find the momentum. Catawba used this to their advantage and scored again in the 81st minute. From here, Tampa struggled only shooting one shot the rest of the game. Final: 2-1 (Catawba)
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Hostage led the team with three shots and one shot on goal being the only Spartan to score tonight
- Four different Spartans accrued one shot: Quinn Knapp, Stephanie DeLaforcade, Hannah Kirkpatrick and Fannie Peatt
- Tampa had more fouls called on them, 10-6
