Spartans Earn Weekly Conference Honors
ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Tampa baseball and softball teams were both represented in the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week honors. Craig Corrado was named the player of the week in baseball as Devlin Dougherty was the selection for softball. Both teams recorded three-game sweeps in SSC play with softball defeating Lynn and baseball topping Nova Southeastern.
Craig Corrado, a right fielder from Tampa, guided the second-ranked Spartans to an impressive three-game sweep at #24 Nova Southeastern in Fort Lauderdale. Corrado batted .692 (9-for-13) with six doubles, five RBI and six runs scored. Corrado, who drove in at least one run in each game of the series, collected a two-hit game, a three-hit game and a four-hit game. He matched a school record with four doubles in the second game.
Dougherty, a native of Couer d'Alene, Idaho, led the Spartans to a series sweep at Lynn. Dougherty batted .500 (6-for-12) with three runs and six RBI in the series. In a 9-7 nine-inning win in game two, she was 4-for-5 with a double, two home runs, three RBI, and two runs scored. In an 11-8 victory in the finale, she went 2-for-4 with another homer, three RBI, and a run scored. For the week, Dougherty slugged 1.333 and posted a .500 OBP. She also recorded all three victories as a pitcher.
