Tampa Set to Take on Barry at Home
TAMPA Fla.- The University of Tampa men's and women's basketball teams will host Barry University in a Sunshine State battle on Saturday afternoon at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.
The women tip off at 2 pm with the men scheduled to start at 4pm.
The women ended January on a high note with a 58-47 win against
Lynn University. February began with an unfortunate mark with a
79-51 loss to No. 14 Rollins.
The Spartans are ranked first in field goal percentages and 3-point
field goal percentages in the Sunshine State Conference. UT is led
by senior Jaleesa Harmon who is ranked fourth in scoring in the SSC
with 13.7 points per game. Other notable scorers include junior
Moriah Hodge (12.2 ppg) and sophomore Illyssa Vivo (11.3 ppg).
After losing eight straight games, the men's team beat Rollins College on the road 98-88. The Spartans shot 53 percent from the field and as well as from behind the arc, as four players were in double figures. Ashton Graham and Callum Townsend both had career high in points scored with 30 and 26 points respectively.
The team is led by senior Ashton Graham who is ranked seventh in scoring in the SSC with 14 points per game. Other notable scorers include Callum Townsend (12.5 ppg) and sophomore Stefon Barfield (7.6 ppg).
The Barry University women's team have won 4 straight games. The team is led by seniors, Danielle DeBerry (10.9ppg) and Yvonne Houston (9.6ppg). The men have won two straight games, and are led by senior Evan White (13.5 ppg), followed by junior Chad Renfro (12.9 ppg).
The UT women lead the series 37-18 and the men lead 38-18.
Tickets will be available at the gate for $5 (adults) and $3 (children and senior citizens). UT students will be admitted for free with a valid student ID.
