Spartans to Host Buccaneers in a Pair of Saturday Contests
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's basketball teams will take on Sunshine State Conference Opponent Barry University at the Martinez Center on Saturday. Tipoff begins at 2 p.m., for the women, followed by the men at 4 p.m.
Tampa's women enter the matchup with an overall record of 15-8 and a conference record of 5-8, while Barry stands at 13-10 on the season and 4-9 in league play.
The Spartans are coming off of an overtime victory against Saint Leo University. The battle featured three Spartans ending the game with double doubles. Junior Illyssa Vivo leads her squad in scoring and rebounding with 11.7 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game.
The Bucs are also coming off of a huge victory against Palm Beach Atlantic which ended their two game losing streak. The team is led by Colette Eule and Tyler Hardy averaging 13.2 and 11.1 ppg respectively.
Tampa leads the all-time series 39-20 against Barry. The two teams met earlier this season in which the Bucs derailed the Spartans 64-60 in an overtime contest.
On the men's side, Tampa enters the game with an overall record of 16-10 and an SSC record of 3-10, while the Bucs are 11-12 overall and 4-9 in league play.
The Spartans are looking to end a four game losing streak. The team is led by Da'Markco Foster and Anthony Griffis averaging 16.5 and 15.5 ppg respectively.
The Bucs are coming off a 67-58 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic. Senior Justin McCoy leads his team with 14.5 ppg.
Tampa leads the all-time series 39-19 against Barry. The last time the two teams met, the Bucs defeated the Spartans 75-66.
Tickets will be available at the gate for $5. UT students and faculty/staff will be admitted for free with a valid student ID.
