UT Set to Host SSC Rival for Senior Day Basketball Set
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's basketball teams will host their last home game of the regular season on Wednesday at the Martinez Center against Florida Southern College.
Action will begin at 5:30 p.m., for the women followed by the men at 7:30 p.m. The games will also feature senior day with Moriah Hodge for the women and Anthony Griffis of the men's team set to be honored. Four-year men's manager Max Carroll will also be recognized.
Tampa's women enter the contest with an overall record of 16-8 and a Sunshine State Conference record of 6-8, while Florida Southern holds an overall record of 10-14 and an SSC record of 4-10.
For the first time since December, the Spartans have won two straight contests. Their last victory was at home against Barry in a 58-47 showing. Junior Illyssa Vivo leads the team in scoring and rebounding with an average of 11.9 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game.
The team's lone senior, Moriah Hodge will be recognized before tipoff for her accomplishments as a Spartan. Hodge is the second leading scorer this season, averaging 11.5 ppg.
FSC leads the all-time series 54-31 against UT. Tampa won the earlier meeting, though FSC has now taken five of the last six games against the Spartans.
Florida Southern is coming off of a 60-53 victory against Florida Tech. Senior Kirstin McIntyre leads her squad with 13 ppg.
On the men's side, Tampa is 16-11 overall and 3-11 in league play, while Florida Southern stands at 19-5 overall and 10-4 in the conference.
The Spartans look to end their five game losing streak against the Mocs. The team is led by Da'Markco Foster who is averaging 16.4 ppg. Second leading scorer (15.6 ppg) and senior, will also be recognized for his career at UT.
The Mocs are coming off of an 83-78 loss against Florida Tech.
Seth Evans leads the team in scoring with 15.4 ppg.
FSC leads the all-time series 78-49 against UT. And are winners of
10 straight against the Spartans.
Tickets will be available at the gate for $5. UT students and faculty/staff will be admitted for free with a valid student ID.
