Spartans Set for Weekend Battle with Panthers
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men and
women's basketball teams are set to host the Florida Tech Panthers
Saturday in the Bob Martinez Athletics Center. This will be the
second time that each team squares off against the Panthers.
The women's team was defeated 57-62 the first time around when the two squared off in Melbourne back on January 10th. The Panthers come into this game as the No. 18 team in the nation. Last time out Tampa defeated Lynn handily 76-45, while Tech defeated Saint Leo 81-71.
The UT women enter the game with a 13-7 record and currently sit in fourth in the SSC with a 6-4 mark. Florida Tech comes in boasting an 18-2 record, and currently in second place at 8-2.
The Spartan attack is led by Juliana Cavallaro who's the leading
scorer for Tampa, as she is averaging 15.6 points per game. Aisha
Rodney and Ellen Nurmi are both averaging double digits at 11.8 and
10.8 points per game respectively.
In their first meeting, the men's team coasted to an 85-66 victory
over Tech. Last time out, the Spartans picked up a 66-61 victory
over Lynn down in Boca Raton, while the Panthers defeated the Saint
Leo lions 61-54. In the contest against the Knights, four Spartans
scored double digits points.
UT enters the contest with a 12-8 clip, while sitting fourth in the
SSC with a 5-5 mark. FIT comes in sporting a 13-8 record, despite
being seventh in conference with a 3-7 record.
Tampa's big three is led by Eugene McCrory, as he is averaging 17.4
points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Jordan Davis is averaging 15.7
points and 6.7 assists, and to round out the trio Sophomore Austin
Rettig is averaging 15.4 points per game.
Tip-off for the games is set for 2:00pm and 4:00pm EST. Live stats
