Lacrosse Welcomes in SSC Rivals To Naimoli Stadium
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's lacrosse team are set to host home game Saturday at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex. The men will be hosting the Lynn University Fighting Knights, while the women welcome in the Florida Tech Panthers.
The men's team comes into the matchup with an 11-2 overall record and 3-0 in the Sunshine State Conference. Lynn comes in with a 7-5 overall record and a 1-2 in conference play. This will be the second time these teams have met, as UT took the first matchup last season on the road by a final of 19-5.
Conor Whipple and Mike Morris lead Tampa's offense. Whipple has recorded 52 points on the season with 28 goals and 24 assists. Conor ranks second in the conference in points per game with 4.17, and ranks first in assists per game with nearly two assists. Morris leads the Spartan scoring as he has netted in 33 goals on the season.
On the faceoff, senior Nick Ferreiro leads the way as he has won 64.3% (135-210) of faceoff attempts. He leads the Sunshine State Conference in faceoff percentage. He also ranks third in the conference in total groundballs.
The men's game will begin at 3:00 p.m.
The women's team comes into the matchup with a 5-9 overall record and 0-2 in conference play. Florida Tech comes into the game with a 6-6 record and 0-1 in SSC play. This will be the first matchup between the two schools.
Amanda Voges leads the way for the Spartans as she has recorded 52 points on the season, including 43 goals and nine assists. She ranks fifth in the conference with 3.07 goals per game and ranks fifth with 5.79 shots per game.
Saturday also marks senior night for two Spartans, as Kirsten Brierly and Katie Delaney will be honored in a pregame ceremony. The women's game is set to begin 7:30.
