Tampa Has 149 Student-Athletes on SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll
MELBOURNE, Fla. - For the first time in
Sunshine State Conference history Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll
numbers cross the millennium mark. In all, 1,023 student-athletes
were named to the SSC Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll for 2015,
announced Monday, June 29 by Commissioner Ed Pasque. A total of 149
student-athletes carried a perfect 4.00 grade-point average for the
semester.
The University of Tampa placed 149 student-athletes on the honor
roll, including 25 from men's lacrosse, 21 from rowing, 18 from
baseball, 18 from men's swimming, 16 from women's swimming, 14 from
women's lacrosse, 11 from softball, nine from women's golf, six
from men's golf, five from tennis, four from women's basketball and
two from men's basketball.
Ut also had a total of 14 student-athletes who competed in 2014-15
while earning a perfect 4.0 GPA in the spring semester.
This spring's honor roll numbers break the previous records of 958
student-athletes honored and 134 with perfect grade-point averages
set in 2014.
Rollins College led the way with 179 student-athletes on the list.
Florida Southern College and Florida Institute of Technology each
had 36 students earn 4.00's this semester. At 144, baseball yielded
the most honorees for the spring. Women's swimming was the top spot
for 4.00's with 19 student-athletes achieving perfection.
"Sunshine State Conference student-athletes are among the best in
country athletically, academically and in their communities,"
stated Commissioner Pasque. "Today's announcement of 1,023
student-athletes on the Commissioner's Honor Roll is further
evidence of this fact."
To be eligible for the Spring SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll, a
student-athlete must post a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 on
a scale of 4.00. Participants in the sports of men's and women's
basketball, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's golf,
men's and women's tennis, women's rowing, baseball, softball, and
men's and women's lacrosse were eligible for the spring honor
roll.
Having won 94 Division II National Championships, the SSC's
student-athletes have proven to be successful in the classroom. For
the fifth consecutive year the SSC boasts an Academic Success Rate
of 86 percent, a mark that ranks second among all NCAA Division II
conferences.
