The Tampa Rundown
A look at the athletic events happening this week.
ICYMI: In Case You Missed It, last week the men's golf team took second at the Manhattan Invitational. Beach Volleyball finished the week 1-2, defeating the Stevenson University Mustangs, before falling to the Eckerd Tritons and the FGCU Eagles. The women's tennis team fished the week with a perfect 2-0 record. They defeated Augustana 7-2 at home, before traveling to defeat West Virginia State 6-3. Additionally, both the men's and women's lacrosse teams went undefeated last week. The men defeated two top-ranked opponents, the No. 10 Belmont Abbey Crusaders 13-12, and the No. 16 Lindenwood Lions 12-6. The women defeated Lenoir-Rhyne by a final score of 12-7, before dominating the No. 23 McKendree Bearcats 17-14. UT baseball continued the trend and also went undefeated last week. On Wednesday, they beat Bridgeport 16-2, and then swept SSC foe No. 16 Saint Leo in the weekend series. On Sunday, the baseball team defeated Saint Leo 3-0 and 6-0 respectively, marking the first SSC doubleheader shutouts since 2005. Softball suffered a conference loss to the Nova Southeastern Sharks over the weekend, losing the series 2-1. The men's and women's track teams competed at both the 49er Classic and the Black and Gold Challenge over the weekend. At the races, two Spartans recorded personal bests. Finally, the men's and women's swimming teams, wrapped up their 2018 seasons competing at the NCAA Championships. The men's team finished 24th overall, while the women took home 13th.
This Week's Events:
Beach Volleyball:
Tuesday, Beach Volleyball will host the Saint Leo Lions in a home dual beginning at 4:00 p.m. This will be the first time the Spartans have faced the Lions in beach volleyball.
Baseball:
Also on Tuesday, the baseball team will travel to play against the Valdosta State Blazers. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. The team will then host the Barry Buccaneers in the weekend series, with games at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, and then a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Women's Lacrosse:
The No. 18 Tampa women's lacrosse team will host the NYIT Bears on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., before welcoming the University of Alabama Huntsville Chargers on Friday the 23rd, also at 7:30 p.m.
Men's Lacrosse:
The No. 7 men's lacrosse team will travel to Melbourne, Florida, on Wednesday the 21st, where they will take on the Florida Tech Panthers at 4:00 p.m. This will be their only game this week.
Men's and Women's Track:
Both the men's and women's track teams will compete at the USF Invitational on Thursday and Friday. Races will take place throughout the entirety of both days.
Tennis:
The only match for the women's tennis team this week will be when they host Broward College on Friday, the 23rd at 6:00 p.m.
Softball:
Softball welcomes the Embry-Riddle Eagles this weekend. The first game of the series, on Friday, will take place at 6:00 p.m., and then on Saturday, 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. respectively.
Rowing:
On Saturday, the women's rowing team is set to compete at the John Hunter Regatta in Gainesville, Florida.
Men's Golf:
The men's golf team will head to North Alabama where they will compete in the North Alabama Invitational Sunday through Tuesday.
