The Tampa Rundown
A look at the athletic events happening this week.
ICYMI: In Case You Missed It, last week the women's lacrosse team went 1-1. The No. 15 Spartans lost to the No. 19 NYIT Bears 8-7, before going on to defeat the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers 16-8. The men's lacrosse team also suffered a loss, their first conference loss against the Florida Tech Panthers, 7-6. Over the weekend, both the men's and women's track teams competed at the USF Invitational. Four different runners had top ten times for the Spartans. For the men, Dalton Morley finished fourth in the 800 meter, while Stone Malick finished eighth in the 1500 meter. On the women's team, freshman Zoe Jarvis finished eighth in the 1500 meter, and Monika Brill finished ninth in the 5k. Tampa's tennis team defeated Broward College 6-3 on Friday. The baseball team swept the Barry Buccaneers 3-0. On Friday, the squad won 9-1, and then in the doubleheader on Saturday, the Spartans defeated the Buccaneers 13-2 and 9-3 respectively. Softball also won their weekend series over the Embry-Riddle Eagles. UT lost the first game 3-0, but was able to bounce back and defeat the Eagles 4-1, and 2-1 respectively.
This Week's Events:
Women's Golf:
Currently, the women's golf team is competing at the Barry Invitational. The first two rounds of play will take place today, with the tournament closing out tomorrow.
Men's Golf:
The men's golf team is currently competing at the North Alabama Invitational. Round one took place yesterday, round two resumes today, and round three will close out the tournament tomorrow.
Beach Volleyball:
Today, Beach Volleyball will host the Saint Leo Lions in a home dual beginning at 7:00 p.m. The team will then travel to Lakeland, Fla. on Tuesday where they have two matches against the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters at 2:00 p.m. and the second against host, Florida Southern at 4:00 p.m.
Women's Lacrosse:
The No. 15 Tampa women's lacrosse team will play in their second conference game of the season tomorrow against No. 1 Florida Southern. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Lakeland, Fla. The team will then return home on Saturday, March 31st, to host Colorado State-Pueblo in a contest scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Tennis:
On Wednesday, women's tennis will travel to No. 10 Saint Leo, for a match slated for 3:00 p.m. The Spartans will then host No. 28 Florida Tech on Friday the 30th, for another 3:00 p.m. showdown.
Men's and Women's Track:
Both the men's and women's track teams will travel to Gainesville, Fla. Thursday through Saturday to compete in the Florida Relays. Races will take place throughout the entirety of all three days.
Men's Lacrosse:
Men's Lacrosse will play both games this week on the road. The No. 7 Spartans will travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. on Thursday to face SSC opponent Embry-Riddle before they head to Savannah, Ga. to take on the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears. These games are scheduled for 4:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. respectively.
Softball:
Softball continues conference play in a weekend series against the Barry Buccaneers. The team will travel to Miami Shores for a 6:00 p.m. game on Thursday night, before playing in a doubleheader on Friday. Game times for the doubleheader are 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Baseball:
UT baseball will also be on the road this weekend. The Spartans will compete against the Lynn University Fighting Knights on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., then on Saturday start times for the doubleheader are 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
