The Tampa Rundown
A look at the athletic events happening this week.
ICYMI: In Case You Missed It, last week both the men's and women's golf teams finished 14th at the North Alabama Invitational and at the Barry Invitational respectively. Beach volleyball ended the week 2-1, defeating both Saint Leo and Lincoln Memorial, before falling to SSC rival Florida Southern. The No. 17 women's lacrosse team fished last week with a 1-1 record. The Spartans lost a heartbreaker to No. 1 Florida Southern by a final score of 13-12. They then went on to defeat Colorado State-Pueblo 14-7. Tampa tennis also ended last week 1-1. They lost 7-2 against No. 9 Saint Leo, and then defeated No. 22 Florida Tech 6-3. The men's and women's track teams both competed at the Florida Relays. Three runners participated for the Spartans, Tyler Roberts for the men, who ran a new personal record, and then Sydney Rhodes and Zoe Jarvis for the women. The No. 9 ranked men's lacrosse team also finished the week 1-1. They defeated the Embry-Riddle Eagles by a final score of 18-4, and then lost to the No. 3 Lenoir-Rhyne Bears 12-9. The softball team won their weekend series against Barry 2-1. They defeated the Barry Buccaneers 2-1 on Friday night and then split on Saturday, 2-7, and 12-0 respectively. Baseball also won their weekend series over the Lynn Fighting Knights. No. 3 UT won 14-2 on Friday night, and then 3-2 and 12-9 in the doubleheader on Saturday.
This Week's Events:
Men's Golf:
The men's golf team is currently competing at the Barry Invitational in Miami Shores, Fla. The first two rounds of play will take place today, with the final round concluding the tournament tomorrow.
Beach Volleyball:
Tomorrow beach volleyball will travel to St. Leo, Florida, where they will compete in a dual against the Saint Leo University Lions at 6:00 p.m. This will mark the second time these two teams face each other, Tampa having won the first meeting 3-2. Then on Saturday and Sunday, Tampa will compete at the AVCA Small College Championships in Tavares, Florida.
Women's Lacrosse:
On Wednesday, April 4th, the No. 17 Tampa women's lacrosse team will host a conference showdown against the Florida Tech Panthers. The first draw is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
Men's Lacrosse:
Immediately following the women's game, the No. 9 ranked men's team will take Naimoli Field for an 8:00 p.m. contest against SSC rival Florida Southern. The men's team will then continue conference competition on Saturday, May 7th, hosting Saint Leo University. This game is also slated to begin at 8:00 p.m.
Rowing:
Friday and Saturday, the women's rowing team will be competing at the FIRA Championships in Sarasota. Races will take place throughout the entirety of each day.
Women's Golf:
Women's golf will travel to Osprey, Florida where they will compete in the Harvard Invitational at The Oaks Club. The first two rounds of play will take place on Saturday, April 7th, with the third round closing out the tournament on Sunday.
Men's and Women's Track:
On Friday, April 6th, both the men's and women's track teams will travel to Daytona Beach, to compete in the Embry-Riddle Invitational.
Baseball:
The No. 3 ranked baseball team will also travel to Daytona Beach this weekend, for a series against the Embry-Riddle Eagles. Friday night, first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Then on Saturday, there will be a doubleheader with games taking place at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. respectively.
Tennis:
Tampa tennis will host the Lynn Fighting Knights on Sunday, April 8th at 10:00 a.m.
