The Tampa Rundown
A look at the athletic events happening this week.
ICYMI: In Case You Missed It, last week the beach volleyball team defeated the Webber International Warriors by a final score of 4-1. Now with just one contest left in the season, the first-year program sits with an overall record of 13-10. Over the weekend, four different teams for UT competed against the PBA Sailfish. All four teams walked away with a win for Tampa. Baseball won the series over the Sailfish 3-0, winning on Friday 10-8, and then going on to win on Saturday 2-0, and 11-1. UT Softball won their series with PBA 2-1, losing on Friday night and then bouncing back to win the doubleheader on Saturday, 6-3, and 3-1. Women's lacrosse sailed past the Sailfish on Saturday with a 17-4 victory. Finally, the men's lacrosse team obliterated PBA 27-5. The men's team also defeated the Rollins College Tars 17-5 in a mid-week contest. UT tennis played their final home match of the season, losing to No. 21 Rollins, 6-3. Finally, the women's track team competed at the Tom Jones Meet in Gainesville, Fla. Two Spartans finished in the top 15, one in the 1500 meter, and the other in the 800-meter race.
This Week's Events:
Women's Golf:
Women's golf is currently in Boca Raton, Florida where they are competing in the Sunshine State Conference Championships at the Osprey Point Golf Course. The first round of the Championships took place yesterday, with the tournament wrapping up tomorrow. Currently, the Spartans are tied for 7th.
Women's Lacrosse:
Wednesday, the No. 16 Spartans will travel to Saint Leo University to take on the Lions for a 7:30 p.m. showdown. They will then host the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. contest. Be sure to get to Naimoli Field early on Saturday as the team will be celebrating its three seniors.
Men's Lacrosse:
Also on Wednesday night, the No. 8 men's lacrosse team will host the No. 6 Saint Leo Lions. This game is slated to begin at 8:00 p.m. at Naimoli Family Field. The Spartans will then travel to Lynn University on Saturday to take on the Fighting Knights in a 7:00 p.m. game.
Tennis:
On Thursday, Tampa tennis will play against the Lynn Fighting Knights in the SSC Quarterfinals at 10:00 a.m. IMG Academy will be showcasing this event as well as the continuation of the SSC tournament on Friday and Saturday.
Men's and Women's Track:
Both the men's and women's track teams will travel to Atlanta, Georgia on Friday, April 20th to compete at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
Softball:
The softball team will host Saint Leo for their weekend series. Friday's game will begin at 6:00 p.m. while the games on Saturday will take place at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Baseball:
This weekend, the No. 2 baseball team will travel to Evansville, Indiana where they will play the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles. Games will be Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with game times at 7:00 p.m., 7:00p.m., and 1:00 p.m. respectively.
Women's Rowing:
Finally, Rowing will compete at the SIRA Championships in Oak Ridge, Tennessee on Saturday and Sunday. Races will take place throughout the entirety of the day.
