Tampa Goes 2-0 On First Day of Eckerd Battle On the Bay

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Spartans claim another big victory in Route to 2-0 start at the Eckerd College Battle on the Bay.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

v.s. College of Charleston: The Spartans began their day facing off against a highly respected College of Charleston. The Spartans claimed the 5's (Clair Overton and Valerie Rosequist) and 6's matchups (Cassidy Ehrieand Selina Pfuner), but the 4's matchup was claimed by the Cougars, all three matches ending in straight sets. The first three matches set a highly competitive tone for 1's-3's matchups, all of which went to three sets. Tampa proved to be the better squad, and took all three matchups in the third, beating the Cougars 4-1, and improving to 3-2 on the season.

v.s. Eckerd: Following their win over Charleston, the Spartans kept the intensity high as they faced conference opponents Eckerd College. The Tritons looked to make a splash and claim a huge upset win, just as the Spartans did last week, but the task proved to be to tall. The Spartans took all five matchups, improving to 4-2 on the season.

INSIDE THE STATS:

- Kiersten Anderson and Payton Brunick, the #2 pairing for the Spartans, improve to 5-1 on the season, their only loss falling to No. 3 Florida State.

- The #1 pairing of Julia Oswald and Rachel Rosequist have been taken to three sets twice this year, coming out victorious both times.

- The Spartans are now .500 against both of the teams they played today with a record of 1-1 against CofC and 3-3 against Eckerd.
