HOW IT HAPPENED:
v.s. No. 2 TCU: The Spartans began day 2 of the LSU Beach invitational bright and early taking on division 1 powerhouse No. 2 TCU. The horned frogs proved to be too tall of a task for the Spartans, who showed great fight against some of the top pairing in the country. Melissa Elias and Maddie Brunick stole the first set from their opposition 3's pairing 25-23. TCU responded in the second, forcing a third set, in which they would narrowly edge out the Spartans. Keely Hamilton and Valerie Rosequist won their second set after dropping the first but were similarly edged out in the third. The 1's, 2's, and 4's were all won by TCU in straight sets.
v.s. Louisiana Monroe: In their fifth and final matchup of their weekend in Baton Rouge the Spartans squared off against the Warhawks of Louisiana Monroe. Kiersten Anderson and Payton Brunick , the Spartans' 2's, got their first win of the weekend in straight sets, 21-18 in both games. In their third time playing in a match that went to three sets, Tampa's 3's Melissa Elias and Maddie Brunick finally came out on top sealing their victory 15-7 in the final set. Similarly, the Spartans' 5's Keely Hamilton and Valerie Rosequist went to three sets for the third time this weekend. They too claimed the victory, winning the third set 16-14. ULM would claim the 1's and 4's but Tampa came out with the win.
UP NEXT: The Spartans travel to Fort Meyers this Friday, April 1st to take on FGCU, and will continue the weekend trip traveling to West Palm Beach to play Palm Beach Atlantic and Florida Southern on Saturday, April 2nd.
