Beach Volleyball Closes Out Weekend With Two Wins
YOUNGSVILLE, La. – Spartans bounce back on Day 2 in Louisiana to reclaim .500 record.
After back-to-back losses on Friday, Tampa looked to rebound on Day 2 of the Sugar Beach Bash. Following a tournament schedule shift the Spartans took on HCU in an early morning clash. In a similar script to last Saturday, when the two squads battled in Tampa, the Spartans came out on top with a 4-1 victory. Cassidy Ehrie and Hailey Peterson were the only Spartan pairing that played a third set and prevailed over the Huskies sealing the first point for the Spartans. Tampa's 3's and 4's pairings were dominant over the Huskies. Maddison Brunick and Keely Hamilton in the 3's held their opponents to a combined 22 points over two sets. Hailey Wolfe and Neveah Wolfe weren't very far off from that tally in the 4's, allowing just 25 combined points in their match. The Huskies' 2's pairing was their lone victory, and they looked to salvage another point in the 1's, but Payton Brunick and Olivia Margolies responded from last week's loss and claimed their match in two sets.
The schedule shift saw the Spartans matchup switched to the Privateers of the University of New Orleans. Ehrie and Peterson made quick work in the 5's holding their opponents to a combined 25 points over two sets. Brunick and Hamilton moved up a spot in the Spartans lineup and sealed a convincing two-set victory in the 2's and put a firm 2-0 grip on the duel. New Orleans claimed the 1's to pull a point back, but shortly after, Tampa claimed the 3's and 4's to put the match away and seal their second win of the day.
