Tampa Set for Tri-Match
TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa beach volleyball hosts Florida Gulf Coast and the first Sunshine State Conference foe of 2025, Eckerd.
About the Spartans: After the Sandy Spartan Invitational, the University of Tampa women's beach volleyball team is set to compete against Florida Gulf Coast and Eckerd for the thirteenth and eleventh time, respectively, in program history. The Spartans split their meetings with FGCU last year, having played twice in the same week; Tampa is yet to capture a win over the FGCU Eagles at home and looks to make history this weekend. As for Eckerd, the Spartans are actively on a dominating 8 meeting winning streak that dates back to 2019. Furthermore, the Spartans' streak is made up of 6 sweeps and a couple of 4-1 victories over Eckerd.
About Florida Gulf Coast: The Florida Gulf Coast Beach Volleyball squad kicked off its 2025 season at the Beach Berg Invitational, hosted by Southern Mississippi. The Eagles went 2-2 on the weekend, falling only to top-10 teams in No. 8 LSU and No. 6 Florida State. However, FGCU was able to sweep Southern Miss and defeat North Alabama, which they defeated last season at the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament, the No. 4 ranked team in the country at the time. The Eagles hit the road for the second weekend in a row and face Tampa, who they're 8-4 against all-time, and Eckerd, who they're an 11-1 against all-time, even sweeping the Tritons in both of their last meetings.
About Eckerd: The Tritons went 0-4 at the Stetson University Invitational and further, as a team, only captured one of their 20 matches of the weekend. The Tritons are 3-8 all-time against Tampa, currently on a 8-game winning streak, having not captured a match against their Bay area rival since the 2018 season. Eckerd hasn't conquered a meeting over FGCU since 2018 and is 1-11 all-time against the program.
