Spartans Bounced Back on Friday With Two Victories

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa beach volleyball team delivered an impressive performance at home, securing dominant victories over Florida Gulf Coast and Eckerd at the Tampa Beach Complex. The Spartans took down FGCU 4-1 before sweeping Eckerd 5-0, improving their record to 2-4 on the young season.

The 1's pair of Nevaeh Wolfe and Hailey Wolfe, who were named the Sunshine State Conference Beach Volleyball Pair of the Week, led the charge, continuing their outstanding season with straight-set victories in both matches. Their dominance against FGCU, winning both sets 21-15, set the tone for the day. They followed that up with a commanding 21-6, 21-15 win over Eckerd, showcasing their sibling chemistry on the sand.

In the 2's, Elizabeth Price and Angel Williams battled through a tough three-setter against FGCU's but eventually fell, marking the Spartans only loss on the day. After taking the first set 21-17, they dropped the second 14-21 but rebounded with a 15-11 win in the third to clinch another point for the Spartans. Against Eckerd, the duo displayed bounced back with commanding 21-17 and 21-10 victories.

The 3's saw a hard-fought battle against FGCU, where Lauren Duke and Brooke Green took the first set 21-14 but fell in the next two, 21-14, 15-11. However, Madelynn Hokanson and Hailey Peterson stepped up against Eckerd, securing a dominant 21-14, 21-8 victory.

Tampa's 4's and 5's pairs were in sync throughout the weekend; Hokanson and Peterson clinched a nailbiter against FGCU, 21-16, 22-20. They carried that momentum into the Eckerd match,as mentioned above, where they won in straight sets in the 3's slot. Anna Bayes and Duke delivered in the 4's against Eckerd with a 21-14 and 21-13 triumph, while Sammie Ostrander and Meghan Schreck capped off the weekend with clutch performances in both matches; Securing a straight-set, 21-15 and 21-15, win over FGCU before battling to a three-set victory against Eckerd, 21-12, 16-21, and 15-11.
