Tampa Closes Out FAU Invitational, Turning Focus To Conference Opponents
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – The University of Tampa beach volleyball team concluded its weekend at the FAU Beach Invitational, dropping matches against Alabama-Birmingham and No. 3 TCU. With their results on the weekend, winning 1 of 4 matches, Tampa now holds a 4-8 overall record on the season.
The Spartans opened the day against the University of Alabama-Birmingham; the 2's pair of Nevaeh Wolfe and Hailey Wolfe continued their strong season, securing a 21-16, 21-18 victory in straight sets. The 3's duo of Madelynn Hokanson and Hailey Peterson added another—and what would be the squad's final point of the match—battling to a 21-17, 21-19 win. In the 1's slot, Elizabeth Price and Angel Williams faced a tough UAB pair and fell 21-15, 21-12. The 4's team of Sammie Ostrander and Brooke Green kept their match close but came up short, 21-18, 21-13, while Olivia Whisnant and Meghan Schreck dropped a 21-15, 21-18 decision in the 5's flight, sealing the match for the Dragons.
Up next on Tampa's agenda was taking on No. 4 TCU. The Spartans struggled against their highest-ranked opponent of the season, falling in all five flights. Price and Williams kept their first set close before dropping a 21-17, 21-12 contest in the 1's slot. In the 2's, the Wolfe twins fought hard but were held off in a 21-13, 21-15 loss. The 3's pair of Hokanson and Peterson faced a powerful TCU duo and fell 21-13, 21-15, while the 4's team of Ostrander and Green suffered a 21-13, 21-16 defeat. In the 5's flight, Lauren Duke and Schreck closed out the day with a 21-12, 21-14 loss to the Horned Frogs.
