Spartans Set for Conference Battles at Saint Leo
SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Spartans travel to familiar territory at Saint Leo to take on the Lions and the Barry Buccaneers. This will be only the second meeting in program history between Tampa and Barry, with their first encounter resulting in a 5-0 Spartan sweep last season. Meanwhile, Tampa has dominated its all-time series with Saint Leo, holding a 14-1 record, including seven straight wins dating back to 2021.
About the Spartans: Despite a tough weekend at Florida Atlantic University's Beach Invitational, Hailey Wolfe and Nevaeh Wolfe earned their third SSC Duo of the Week award this season. Their recognition also marks the fourth consecutive week that a Spartan pair has received the honor. Looking ahead, Tampa is set to travel to Saint Leo for a pair of matches against the Lions and Barry Buccaneers. This will be just the second-ever meeting between Tampa and Barry, with the Spartans sweeping their first encounter 5-0 last season. Meanwhile, Tampa has historically dominated Saint Leo, boasting a 14-1 all-time record against the Lions. The Spartans have won seven straight matches in the series, dating back to the 2021 season.
About Saint Leo: Sitting at 6-6 on the season, the Saint Leo Lions host four matches this week, starting on Tuesday, March 18, against Stevenson and Weber International. They will then face Tampa and Barry on Friday in conference play. The Lions have competed in two tournaments this season, going 0-4 at the DUVAL Duals, including a loss to No. 19 North Florida. However, they rebounded at the Eckerd Triton Invite, winning their last three matches after an initial loss to Florida Southern.
About Barry: The Barry Buccaneers are 2-5 in their second-ever season of beach volleyball, looking to improve on last year's 0-15 record. In 2024, the Buccaneers suffered 10 sweeps, including one at the hands of the Spartans. Barry is coming off a 1-3 weekend at the Palm Beach Atlantic Invitational. Before facing Tampa and Saint Leo on Friday, the Bucs will host Ave Maria and Eckerd on Thursday, March 20.
