Tampa Sweeps Saint Leo and Barry on the road
SAINT LEO, Fla. – The University of Tampa beach volleyball team swept its Friday doubleheader at the Saint Leo Beach Volleyball Courts, defeating both the Saint Leo Lions and Barry Buccaneers by identical straight sets. The dominant performance gets the Spartans back in the win column as they now hold a 6-8 record for their 2025 campaign.
In the opener against host Saint Leo, the 1's duo of Elizabeth Price and Angel Williams set the tone, claiming a 21-17, 21-13 victory. Then Nevaeh Wolfe andHailey Wolfe, followed with a commanding 21-14, 21-9 victory in the 2's, while Madelynn Hokanson andHailey Peterson secured the clinching point with a 23-21, 21-16 win in the 3's slot. The 4's match proved to be the most thrilling of the day, as Lauren Duke and Brooke Green battled through a marathon three-setter to come out on top, 28-26, 12-21, 21-19. In the 5's, Sammie Ostrander and Meghan Schreck took care of business, winning 21-15, 21-12. Tampa's Bella Rosillo and Anna Bayes cruised to a 21-6, 21-14 win in an extension match.
The momentum carried into the afternoon session, where the Spartans blanked Barry for their second sweep of the day. This time, the Wolfe twins took the top line, rolling past their opponents 21-10, 21-12. In the 2's, Kaya Lobo and Kyla Dow made their season debut in the lineup and delivered in a gritty 19-21, 21-10, 15-10 comeback victory. The 3's pair of Hokanson and Peterson continued their stellar day with a dominant 21-11, 21-9 win. At the 4's, Duke and Green remained sharp, downing their Barry counterparts 21-13, 21-10. Rounding out the sweep, Bayes and Schreck teamed up for a clean 21-10, 21-16 victory in the 5's, while Madison Hankins and Haylee Hopman dominated their way through an extension win, 21-12, 21-9.
