Spartans Roll on Day One of Battle on the Bay
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The University of Tampa beach volleyball team opened Eckerd's annual Battle on the Bay tournament with a pair of wins on Friday, defeating the University of South Florida in an exhibition matchup before topping Palm Beach Atlantic 4-1. The strong showing extends the Spartans' win streak to four matches and moves them to 8-8 on the season.
The Spartans took on the University of South Florida for the second time in the Bulls' inaugural season. Tampa controlled the match and defeated South Florida to kick off their Battle on the Bay campaign.
The afternoon brought the Spartans' second meeting of the season with Palm Beach Atlantic, and once again, Tampa delivered. The 1's duo of Elizabeth Price and Angel Williams set the tone with a tight 21-14, 22-20 win, followed by a commanding performance from Nevaeh Wolfe and Hailey Wolfe in the 2's, who secured a 21-13, 21-15 victory. At the 3's, Madelynn Hokanson and Hailey Peterson edged out a close first set before pulling away 22-20, 21-14. Sammie Ostrander and Meghan Schreck delivered the clinching point in the 5's with a 21-19, 21-13 win. PBA picked up its lone point in the 4's, where Lauren Duke and Brooke Green fell in straight sets.
