
Spartans Sweep Saint Leo on Senior Day
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa beach volleyball team closed the regular season out in style on Saturday, sweeping Sunshine State Conference rival Saint Leo 5-0 on Senior Day at the Tampa Beach Volleyball Complex. The win marks the Spartans' seventh straight victory to close out the season and the ninth straight victory over Saint Leo, as the Spartans improve to 11-8 heading into postseason play.
The Spartans carried their senior day momentum onto the sand for their last regular season game of the year, delivering their most complete team performance of the season with straight-set wins in three flights and clutch third-set victories in the other two. Hailey Wolfe and Nevaeh Wolfe set the tone in the 1's, outlasting Saint Leo's top duo 21-15, 18-21, 15-9 to remain unbeaten together in conference play. At the 2's, Elizabeth Price and Angel Williams showed command throughout, cruising to a 21-18, 21-10 win to give Tampa a quick 2-0 lead. The 3's saw a thriller as Madelynn Hokanson and Hailey Peterson gutted out a 21-17, 20-22, 15-13 decision to clinch the dual for the Spartans. In the 4's, Anna Bayes and Brooke Green bounced back from a first-set loss with dominant play the rest of the way, winning 19-21, 21-9, 15-10. Rounding out the sweep, Sammie Ostrander and Meghan Schreck delivered a sharp 21-14, 21-10 performance at the 5's.
