Roberto Mena Captures National Player of the Week Award
Louisville, Ky. - The University of Tampa's own Roberto Mena earned national recognition for his accomplishments on the baseball diamond this past weekend. He became only the second Spartan in history to collect the "Louisville Slugger" National Player of the Week Award.
In a weekend series against Sunshine State Conference foe, Saint Leo, Mena went seven for 10 from the plate with two homeruns in each of the first two games of the series. He also added a triple and two doubles in the series. He also was flawless in the field as he converted on all 17 of his fielding opportunities.
Sergio Perez was the only other Spartan to earn the honor, with his no-hitter against Barry University in 2006.
