
Johnny Williams Becomes Record Sixth Spartan to be Drafted
TAMPA, Fla. - Johnny Williams joined University of Tampa baseball teammates Jonathan Holt, Scott Leffler, Craig Corrado, Roberto Mena and Ryan Kennedy as draftees in the 2007 MLB Draft. The six selections tops last seasons five as most in school history as UT has now netted 11 draft choices in the previous two seasons.
Williams, a native of Tampa and Plant High School, finished the 2007 season with a 6-1 record. He posted a 5.54 ERA in 52 innings pitched. He also recorded 43 strikeouts. In his last outing, against Southern Indiana in the NCAA II semifinal, he threw a perfect eighth inning to help the Spartans advance to the national championship game and their second straight title.
