
Tampa Looks To Gain Ground In SSC This Weekend
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 19 University of Tampa (24-9, 4-2) will open up a four-game homestand this weekend against Southern Connecticut State University (7-7) and SSC rival Lynn University (23-8, 4-5). Tampa will host SCSU Thursday night at 7:00 PM and then will take on LU for three over the weekend.
The Spartans dropped two of three to Nova Southeastern this past weekend snapping its eight game win streak. Tampa's offense was stifled in the two losses to the Sharks scoring only one run before rebounding with 14-3 victory to get UT back on track.
Tampa is led offensively by sophomore Jared Simon, who enters tomorrow's game leading the squad in batting average (.432), doubles (11), slugging (.778), and RBI's (30). Outfielder Steven Broschofsky leads the team in homers with eight and second in average hitting .384.
The Southern Connecticut State University Owls will open up the homestand tomorrow night at 7:00 PM as this will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams. The Owls just dropped two games to SSC opponents Florida Tech and Florida Southern, as both games were decided 7-6 in extra innings.
The Fighting Knights from Lynn University will come to Tampa for a 7:00 PM game Friday night followed by a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1:00 PM. Lynn, who is 4-5 in the Sunshine State Conference, recently dropped two of three to Saint Leo this past weekend. The Spartans lead the all-time series 48-19.
