Tampa Continues Climb, Ranked 13th In Latest Poll
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa baseball team used a 3-1 week to move up to No. 13 in the latest NCAA II Collegiate Baseball National Poll. The Spartans, now 30-11 on the year and 8-4 in Sunshine State Conference play, jumped three spots from No. 16 in last week's poll.
Friday's ninth-inning comeback from Florida Tech was the only setback for the Spartans during the week, as they took a midweek, nonconference game from Saint Leo 9-2 before sweeping Saturday's doubleheader with the Panthers, winning the first game 3-2 and the second 5-1. SSC rival Florida Southern (31-5) continues to occupy the top spot in the poll while Barry (31-4) remains in the seventh position. Tampa is scheduled to finish out the regular season on the road against the Mocs and Bucs.
First, however, UT returns home to continue conference play, taking on Saint Leo again, this time in a three-game set beginning on Friday night before a Saturday doubleheader. Tampa will offer livestats through www.tampaspartans.com.
