#16 Tampa Takes Down Seton Hill 9-4
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 16 University of Tampa baseball team defeated Seton Hill University 9-4 on Monday afternoon. The win moves the Spartans to 16-5 on the season while the Griffins drop to 3-8 overall.
Tampa got on the board early, putting up a four-spot in the first. After consecutive singles from Correy Figueroa and Brad Roberts to open up the game, Jared Simon followed with an RBI single. Senior Brett McKean plated two runners with a single to center and catcher Mike Bourdon singled in McKean to round out the scoring for the inning.
The Griffins came back to tie the game in the sixth off starter Daniel Foltz, but another McKean single, this time scoring Trace Venegas, gave the Spartans a 5-4 lead. Venegas offered up an RBI single of his own in the seventh to push the score of 6-4. In the eighth, Larry Walicki crushed a three-run homer to make it 9-4 and put the contest out of reach.
Max Kreuter picked up the win for the Spartans, his first of the year, while Josh Bowman recorded his first save of the season.
The Spartans return to the UT Baseball Field tonight against visiting Bentley at 7 p.m.
