#9 Tampa Battles Past Warner
TAMPA, Fla. - A pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the No. 9 University of Tampa (22-8) baseball team over Warner University (20-15-1) by a score of 6-4.
After Warner took a brief 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Spartans answered with a pair in its half of the first as Damon Elder and Trace Venegas each drove in a run.
Tampa added two more runs in the third inning after Zach Gawrych and Patrick Donahue led off the innings with walks. Both would eventually score as Andrew Jones was credited with an RBI as UT took a 4-1 lead.
The Royals battled back with runs in the fifth, seventh and eighth innings to force a 4-4 tie.
UT would regain control of the game in the eighth inning as freshman Connor Obrochta tripled in a pair of runs with two outs in the frame.
Adam Pendleton and Kyle Amicucci both scored on the extra base hit by the Spartan freshman as Pendleton led off the inning with a walk and Amicucci reached on a single to centerfield.
Tim Kiley (3-0) remained perfect on the season with 1.1 perfect innings of work. Shane Riedie also threw 3.0 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Junior Cody Davis started for the Spartans.
