
Spartans Fall to Sailfish in Saturday Contest
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 1 University of Tampa baseball team was defeated by Palm Beach Atlantic University on Saturday, 7-2. The scheduled doubleheader was limited to just one game due to inclement weather. The loss drops the Spartans to 32-8 on the season as the Sailfish improve to 17-20.
B.J. Zimmerman swung a perfect 3-for-3, while Eric Grabe and centerfielder Connor Obrochta collected a pair of hits in the Spartan loss.
Andrew Jones notched the only Tampa RBI in the contest with a double down the left-field line in the seventh frame, plating a pair of Spartans.
Righty Sean Bierman was the starting pitcher for the Spartans. Bierman threw for seven complete innings and struck out eight Sailfish. The senior allowed only two earned runs and six hits. When Bierman left the game, the score was tied at two.
Sophomore Preston Packrall tossed two innings of relief. Packrall gave up five hits, four earned runs, and struck out two Sailfish. The righty was tabbed with the loss, bringing his season record to 5-3.
The second game of the doubleheader was called due to rain.
Tampa will travel to Sunshine State Conference opponent Eckerd College next weekend. The first of the three-game series is scheduled for Friday night at 6 p.m. Live stats and a video webcast will be available through TampaSpartans.tv.
