Sean Bierman Among Spartans to Receive ABCA/Rawlings Regional Honors
BOCA RATON, Fla. - University of Tampa baseball player Sean Bierman was named the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings South Region Pitcher of the Year and other Spartans were also honored as all-region and gold glove recipients.
Bierman was joined on the first-team by teammates Andrew Jones (OF) and Ben O'Shea (P). Zach Gawrych was also named a second-team all-region performer.
The South Region Gold Glove team was also announced, and included Damon Elder (3B) and Jones.
Bierman, a senior from Kinnelon, N.J., was also the Sunshine State Conference and Daktronics South Region Pitcher of the Year. He concluded the 2012 campaign with an 8-3 overall record and 2.27 ERA. In 83.1 innings pitched, he recorded 85 strikeouts while holding opposing batters to a .241 average.
The ABCA/Rawlings all-region and gold glove awards are voted for by regional head coaches. All first-team selections will move forward to the national ballot for All-American honors, which will be selected on Sunday, May 27 in Cary, N.C., in conjunction with the Division II National Championship Tournament.
