Tampa Combined One-Hitter Marks Fourth in Program History

TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 4 University of Tampa baseball team pitched a combined one-hitter for a bounce-back win against Bentley University by a score of 6-0. The Spartans improve to 1-1 on their 2013 campaign while the Falcons draw even at 1-1 on the season.
Pitchers Eric Luksis and Mike Adams combined for the fourth one-hitter in program history. Left hander Luksis pitched six innings, striking out five while surrendering the Falcons lone hit of the game in his final inning of work. The gem gave Luksis and Tampa its first win of the season. Senior Adams came in to close out the contest, pitching three innings, allowing no hits and sending three batters down on strikes.
First baseman Jake Schrader hit 2-for-4 including a three-run homer in the first. A trio of Spartan batters picked up multiple hits in the game in Drew Doty, Jacob Tillotson and Adam Pendleton.
Tampa wasted no time in the home half of the first, as Schrader plated three runners after launching the Spartan's first home run over the fence to give UT a 3-0 lead.
Senior Schrader picked up his second hit of the game, a two-bagger down the line to lead off the seventh frame. Catcher Pendleton picked up the RBI, scoring the first baseman on a sacrifice fly to give Tampa a 4-0 edge.
Shortstop Tillotson tripled to set the table in the home half of the eighth. The UT squad padded their lead with a pair of runs to end the scoring for the game at 6-0.
The Spartans and Falcons play the final game of the series Sunday Feb. 3rd at the University of Tampa Baseball Field. The matinee is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start. Live stats as well as a live video webcast will be available through www.tampaspartans.tv.
