TAMPA, Fla. - With a 13 run afternoon onslaught, the No. 4 University of Tampa baseball team routed Bentley University 13-0. The shutout puts the Spartans 2-1 on the season while the Falcons drop to 1-2 as they depart from the three game series.
Tampa's pitching staff has recorded 19.1 consecutive scoreless innings, dating back to Friday night.
Starting pitcher Ben Brown earned the win for the UT squad, pitching four solid innings, scattering four hits and striking out one. The bullpen combined for the remaining five innings, allowing two hits and four strikeouts to secure the shutout.
Seven Spartan batters recorded multiple hits in the 13 run drubbing. Second baseman Sean O'Brien led the squad with a three-hit day including two doubles. Shortstop Ryan Lowery mirrored with a pair of doubles to his credit while also scoring two runs and coming around twice to score himself.
Senior Quinn Pippin slugged a pinch-hit home run in the sixth, good for two runs to pad the Spartan lead. Junior Connor Obrochta led the team in runs scored, tagging the plate three times in the Sunday contest.
Bentley standout Logan Gillis hit a perfect 4-for-4 despite the loss, counting for all but two of the Falcons hits.
BU starter John Yohe was credited with the loss, allowing six earned runs across three innings of play.
Tampa continues its homestand with a three-game series against Georgia College, beginning with a Friday double-header. The first contest at the University of Tampa Baseball Field is set to begin at 2 p.m. with the nightcap slated to start shortly after the conclusion of the first game.
