
Spartans Prevail in Low Scoring Affair With Albany State
ALBANY, Ga. - The No. 3 University of Tampa baseball team traveled to Georgia and took on the Rams of Albany State University in an NCAA South Region matchup. Tampa was victorious, beating Albany State 4-2.
The Spartans improve to 11-2 on the season, winning their fourth straight contest. UT has now won 11 of its last 12 games. Albany State falls to 1-5 on the year.
The two teams have not faced each other since the 2006 NCAA South Regional. The last time the Spartans faced off with Albany State, the winner of the Bachelor Pad, Nick Peterson, pitched 5.1 innings, leading the Spartans to a 14-0 win.
The game was close until the very end, with good pitching on both sides. Eric Luksis had the start for the Spartans, pitching 4.0 innings, giving up four hits. Jared Arrington got the loss, pitching 8.1 innings and allowing 8 hits. Tampa's Mike Adams came in for some solid relief work, going 3.2 innings with three strikeouts.
Caleb Kellogg received the win going 1.1 innings and closing the game out for Tampa.
The game was tied going into the ninth inning of play. Jake Schrader started off the ninth inning rally with a double down the left field line.
Next up was Michael Danner, who singled up the middle to score the go-ahead run. An insurance run was added when Danner scored off of a Tyler Ding fly ball to center.
