
Tampa Sweeps Rollins with 16-4 Win
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 3 University of Tampa baseball team won its final game against Rollins College with a 16-4 trouncing Sunday afternoon. The Spartans improve to 24-4 on the season with a 7-2 tally in Sunshine State Conference play while the Tars dip to 14-12 with a 1-5 conference mark.
The UT squad scored 37 runs in its series sweep of Rollins as the visiting Tars managed 8 runs in the romp. Designated hitter Tyler Ding roped a solo home run to left as the junior was one of four Spartans to tally multiple hits on the game.
In addition to Ding, outfielder Michael Danner, shortstop Jacob Tillotson and second baseman Zach Alvord had multiple hits as Alvord led all players with three.
B.J. Zimmerman notched a pinch-hit homer in the late innings to continue the rout as Tampa swept the series to gain ground in the competitive SSC.
Righty Matt Abramson (4-0) earned the win, hurling 3.1 innings relief innings, allowing four hits and no runs. Tars pitcher Brett Mueller (2-2) was tabbed with the loss after two-plus innings and seven runs allowed.
The Spartans hit the road to face Barry University in a three-game set scheduled to start Thursday Mar. 28th at 6 p.m. in Miami Shores, Fla. The series will end with a Friday twin-bill with a 12 p.m. start.
