
Spartans Seal SSC with 10-7 Win Over Lynn
TAMPA, Fla. - With a 10-7 win over Lynn University, the No. 3 University of Tampa baseball team clinched its 15th Sunshine State Conference title and second straight with two regular season games remaining.
The victory gives the Spartans a 37-10 record (17-5 SSC) while the visiting Fighting Knights dip to 30-18 (13-9 SSC).
Five Tampa batters tallied multiple hits on the game as the Spartans ended the night with 14 knocks. Senior B.J. Zimmerman led the charge, hitting 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and a RBI. Catcher Adam Pendleton and shortstop Jacob Tillotson ended the contest with a pair of hits, with backstop Pendleton picking up a two-bagger. Tyler Ding and Michael Danner represent the final two batters to hit safely twice with the latter picking up a RBI for the home squad.
Lynn first baseman Jason Matusik and outfielder Mike Gonzalez each picked up a pair of base-knocks as the duo also plated two runners on the night.
Tampa starting pitcher Jon Kellar tossed six innings, allowing a single earned run off of three hits with a no-decision. Lefty Mike Adams (6-0) earned his sixth win of the season, shutting the door on the back-and-forth battle in two-plus innings of relief. The junior tallied three strikeouts in his strong performance.
Lynn starter Joe Perrotta (5-5) was tabbed with the loss, allowing eight runs ,three earned in his six innings of work.
