
Panthers Scratched from South Regional, Spartans Win 11-6

The No. 2 University of Tampa baseball team rode an 8.2 inning performance from Jon Keller to defeat Florida Tech 11-6 in the NCAA South Regional.
The Spartans continue their season with a 41-10 while the Panthers conclude their 2013 campaign 32-19.
Junior outfielder Connor Obrochta tallied a trio of hits including a pair of two-baggers to lead the home squad to their second tournament victory. Shortstop Jacob Tillotson tallied three base-hits while crossing the plate three times.
Second baseman Tyler Ding recorded two each of hits, runs and RBI while first baseman Sean O'Brien had multiple hits and two RBI to round out the Tampa offense.
FIT rightfielder Jimmie Koch drove in four runs off two hits, including a triple as Scott Carcaise mirrored with two hits of his own. Panthers third baseman Andrew Bartlett hit two singles and scored twice in the contest.
Tampa starting pitcher Keller (4-3) was the workhorse for the Spartans, tallying a near complete game on 127 pitches. The flamethrower amassed nine strikeouts while issuing two walks in his 8.2 innings of work. Senior Matt Abramson recorded a strikeout for the final out of the game with two Panthers on base.
Panther hurler Jason Boyer (5-6) started on the mound for FIT, pitching 3.1 innings while allowing five hits and six earned runs.
The Spartans continue the regional Saturday, playing in the first game of the day at 11 a.m. against the victor of the West Florida and Delta State matchup. Live stats as well as a live video webcast will be available through www.tampaspartans.tv.
