
Mike Adams Selected by Boston Red Sox in Seventh Round
TAMPA, Fla. - University of Tampa left-handed pitcher Mike Adams became the first member of the 2013 NCAA Division II national champions to be selected in the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft.
Adams was chosen in the seventh round by the Boston Red Sox, with the 203rd selection.
The 2013 Sunshine State Conference and South Region Pitcher of the Year was also an All-American during his junior season with the Spartans. In 2013, Adams helped UT to the program's sixth national title and a record of 47-12.
The 6-foot-3-inch from Spring Hill, Fla., was 8-0 with a 2.10 ERA. In 26 games, Adams threw 64.1 innings with a team-high 77 strikeouts. Opposing hitters were just .210 against the lefty. He also started two games, including the national semifinal where he threw six scoreless innings in a win against Grand Valley State.
UT has now produced a NCAA Division II record 37 players who have been drafted since 2006. In that span, Tampa has had at least three players selected in each draft, including a school record in nine in 2010. The Spartans have now had a player drafted in 11 consecutive MLB drafts, dating back to 2003.
