Spartans Remain Top-Ranked Squad in Division II
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa baseball team continues its reign as the No. 1 team in the nation in each of the NCAA Division II polls. College Baseball Lineup, Division II Baseball News and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper each have tabbed the Spartans as the team to beat in their latest polling period.
Head Coach Joe Urso's squad remains the No. 1 team after suffering its first loss of the season at the hands of No. 3/No. 22 Georgia College, giving UT a 8-1 record on the season.
Tampa leads a heavy regional presence, as West Florida, Valdosta State, Florida Tech, Nova Southeastern, Delta State, Barry, Alabama-Huntsville, Lynn and Saint Leo all hold rankings among the polls.
Junior Stephen Dezzi currently leads the Spartans with a .462 batting average while catcher Nick Tindall and Michael Danner share home run honors with three long-balls each. Senior Connor Obrochta leads in both RBI (10) and runs scored (11).
Pitching accolades belong to starting pitchers Trey Oest and David Heintz as both hurlers own a pristine 3-0 record while the latter has a 1.20 ERA in 15 innings. Sophomore Oest is sporting an impressive 17:3 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his 17 innings of work.
