No. 1 Set to Host Pair of Non- Conference Opponents
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 1 University of Tampa baseball team will host Saginaw Valley State University and Walsh University over four games this weekend at the UT Baseball Field.
The weekend will begin on Friday as Tampa hosts the SVSU Cardinals for a 3 p.m. contest followed by a three game set against the Cavaliers of Walsh with a double header starting at 3 p.m., and a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The 2013 National Champions have also won four straight games with an 11-1 record on the season. The Spartans have averaged 11.5 runs per game during their current winning streak. Tampa has been ranked No. 1 all season, and has played five games against national top- five opponents. Against ranked appointments UT is 4-1 this season.
Junior Stephen Dezzi has 17 hits on the season, leading the Spartans with his .472 batting average. Senior Tyler Ding has a team-high 19 hits and 13 RBI, while junior Nick Tindall has contributed four home runs to the Tampa offense.
The Cardinals begin their 2014 campaign against the Spartans with last years' season led by Brad Schalk with a .347 batting average. Saginaw Valley State concluded last season with an overall record of 16-24.
The Walsh Cavaliers of North Canton, Ohio are currently 1-3 after a four game series. The Cavaliers recently joined the NCAA Division II conference this season with Brook Clark averaging .400.
This will be the first meeting between either teams' for the Tampa Spartans baseball program.
