
Obrochta’s Walk-Off Home Run Lifts Spartans Over Sharks
TAMPA, Fla. - A walk-off home run by Connor Obrochta lifted the No.1 University of Tampa baseball team over No. 19 Nova Southeastern University, by a score of 4-3 Friday night.
With the victory, UT extends its win streak to 10 games in a row. The triumph also marks a school record for the fastest to 40 wins in a season.
Tampa improves to a remarkable 40-2 record on the season, 15-1 in Sunshine State Conference play, while Nova drops to 24-14 on the year, 8-11 in SSC competition.
With the game tied at 3-3 and two outs with no men on, Obrochta stepped up to the plate, as the first pitch was smashed to left field for the game winning solo shot by the senior centerfielder.
Slugger Sean O'Brien ended the day hitting a perfect 3-for-3, including a RBI sac fly in the fifth to put UT up 3-2. Outfielder Stephen Dezzi also went 2-for-4 including crossing the plate for the go ahead run.
Relief pitcher Kevin McNorton (5-0) picked up the win, throwing the final two and two thirds innings, allowing one run on two hits, while striking out two batters. Starting hurler David Heintz came up with a no decision in a five inning outing, allowing two runs on seven hits, while striking out five batters.
Visiting pitcher Josh Glick (1-2) was tabbed with the loss as he threw the final two and a third innings, including giving up the walk-off home run. Sharks pitcher Roberto Baroniel threw six and a third innings, giving up three runs on seven hits, while striking out five, and came up with a no decision.
