No. 1 Spartans Shut Down Jaguars 11-3
AUGUSTA, Ga. - The No. 1 ranked Tampa Spartans (9-1) claimed a victory in the series-opener over the Georgia Regents Jaguars (4-4) by a score of 11-3, to open the three-game series.
The University of Tampa recorded 17 hits while scoring four runs in both the 3rd and the 7th inning, holding the Georgia Regents of Augusta to only two scoring innings.
Junior Nick Flair had four hits on the game with a double in the top of the 3rd to set up four RBI's for the Spartans. Giovanny Alfonzo followed with three hits including a triple in the top of the fourth. Andrew Amaro, Cody deNoyelles and Nick Tindall also had multiple hits on the game.
Ace pitcher David Heintz (3-0) picked up the win with six innings pitched, only allowing one run from the Jaguars. Michael Calkins struck out two batters in two innings pitched as Chris Frosch closed out the last inning allowing only one hit.
