No. 1 Tampa Sweeps Georgia Regents with a Final Score of 13-4
AUGUSTA, Ga. - No. 1 University of Tampa (11-1) ended a three-game series with a sweep of Georgia Regents University (4-6) by a score of 13-4.
Tampa out-hit the GRU Jaguars 16-6 with Cody deNoyelles and Casey Scoggins each having three hits on the game.
The Spartans earned a run early in the game to put the UT on the board with a single to right field from Brett Jones bringing deNoyelles in to score.
Senior Nick Tindall hit a home run to left field with two outs on the board to extend the lead 3-0 before closing out the fourth inning.
Giovanny Alfonzo started the sixth with a single to center field, setting the Spartans up to load the bases. Two sacrifice flies were made to bring in two runners to give Tampa a 5-0 lead in the top of the sixth.
With two runs scored and one on base , junior deNoyelles hit a two run homer to bring in Tindall and five RBI in the inning.
The Spartans continued to score in the top of the ninth with a double from Joe Walsh and a double from Chris Pagliarulo to bring in three runners and end the game with a score of 13-4.
Brad Hencke threw four 1-2-3 innings for the win, allowing only one hit in the first five innings. Jake Mielock closed out the game for the Spartans to get the save with four strikeouts in three innings pitched.
