Spartans Sweep SSC Baseball Player of the Week Awards

MELBOURNE, Fla. - Andrew Amaro (Sr., Bensalem, Penn.) of the University of Tampa is the SSC Baseball Player of the Week for the first time this season. Chase Sparkman (Sr., Brandon, Fla.), also of the University of Tampa, is named the SSC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the first time.

Amaro and Sparkman were selected SSC Athletes of the Week from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of April 13-19.

Amaro went 6-for-10 with three RBI, three runs, and a .667 on base percentage in a three game road series against No. 6 Florida Tech last week. In the second game alone, the senior went a perfect 4-for-4 with 2 RBIs, one run scored, and was just a home run short of the cycle. Amaro's offensive production helped the Spartans average over nine runs a game and complete an important conference sweep of Florida Tech.

Sparkman wins his first player of the week this season after pitching the opening game of the road series against Florida Tech. The senior went the full 9.0 innings and gave up no runs off six hits. He also added four strikeouts to help silence the Panther offense. Sparkman's complete game shutout was the first of his career, and with his efforts in game one, the Spartans were able to pass Florida Tech in the SSC standings.
