
Laz Rivera Earns SSC Athlete of the Week Honors
Becomes fourth Spartan hitter to earn award.
MELBOURNE, Fla. - University of Tampa second baseman Laz Rivera was selected the Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his performances from April 11-17.
Rivera, a junior from Miami, Fla., earns SSC Player of the Week honors following a .643 (9-for-14) batting average as Tampa swept Lynn in three games.
The Miami native had 20 total bases and had a slugging percentage of 1.429 in the sweep. Rivera drew two walks and was hit by a pitch bringing his on-base percentage to 0.667. His top game of the series came in the finale, where the junior went 5-for-6 with five runs scored, three RBI, two home runs, and a double.
Tampa is now 31-6 overall and holds a 13-2 record in SSC play. The Spartans return to ac tion on Friday at home versus Florida Southern at 6 p.m.
