
Spartans Fall to Eagles in Game Two of Series
The University of Tampa baseball team was defeated by the Screaming Eagles in the second game of the series.
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa baseball team hosted the Screaming Eagles from Southern Indiana for the second game of the series and suffered a 11-10 loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Kevin Santa was the first Spartan to get on base in the bottom of the first after hitting a double down the left field line. Laz Rivera came up to bat and grounded out to third base, advancing Santa. Adrian Chacon came up to bat and was hit by the pitch, putting him on base. J.D. Osborne came up to the plate and homered to center field, scoring Santa and Chacon and giving the Spartans a 3-0 advantage.
- In the top of the second, Southern Indiana got on the board after an RBI double that would make the score 3-1.
- The Screaming Eagles hit a homerun in the top of the third that cut the Spartans lead to one run. A three run homer to left field gave the Screaming Eagles a 5-3 lead. The bottom of the third brought back to back singles from Santa and L. Rivera, to left field and right center, respectively. Osborne double to right field, bringing Santa across the plate and making it a one-run ball game. The Spartans tied the Screaming Eagles, 5-5, after a passed ball by USI, scoring L. Rivera.
- David Lebron came in to pitch in the top of the fourth, relieving Christian Calleja. In the bottom of the fourth, Danny Lee was the first Spartan on base after he singled to right field on a full count. Santa came up to bat and singled to left field, advancing Lee to second. L. Rivera followed suit and singled to left field advancing all players. Chacon walked with bases loaded, scoring Lee. After a wild pitch, all players advanced and Santa scored, giving the Spartans a 7-5 lead.
- After an hour and fifteen minute rain delay, the Spartans and the Screaming Eagles started back up. The fifth inning was a quick one, both teams going three up-three down.
- The Spartans had a big bottom of the eighth, scoring three runs, making the score 10-5 heading into the ninth inning.
- In the top of the ninth, the Screaming Eagles tallied six runs that would give them the lead heading into the bottom of the ninth. The Spartans made an effort to take the lead again but were unsuccesful as the Screaming Eagles went on to win 11-10.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Santa went 4-5, tallied three RBIs, and had four runs.
- L. Rivera went 3-5 with one run.
- Osborne went 2-5, four RBIs, with a double and a home run.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- The University of Tampa baseball team has four titles in the 21st century while only one other school, Southern Indiana, has more than one.
