
Spartans Take Series Over Conference Rival Mocs
The University of Tampa baseball team took on their SSC rival Florida Southern and swept them in today's DH.
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 7 University of Tampa Spartans battled the No. 15 Florida Southern Mocs in a doubleheader and swept them.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final (Game One): No. 7 Tampa Spartans 6, No. 15 Florida Southern Mocs 4
Final (Game Two): No. 7 Tampa Spartans 14, No. 15 Florida Southern Mocs 12

All-time Series: Tampa leads the all-time series with a 86-79 record over the Mocs.

How it happened (Game One):
- Darren Miller started the top of the third off much like he did the game yesterday, with a home run to left field. Richie Rivera scored as well after being walked in the first at bat of the third.
- In the bottom of the third the Mocs hit back-to-back home runs to tie the score with the Spartans 2-2 and then picked up another run to take the lead, 3-2.
- In the top of the seventh, Chris Gaffney doubled to left field. Kevin Santa came up to the plate and hit a single, advanced to second base and advanced Gaffney to third as well. Miller came up next and hit a double to right center that would bring in Gaffney and Santa and give the Spartans the lead 4-3. J.D. Osborne continued the hitting streak as he singled to throught the left side, advancing Miller to third base. Laz Rivera came to the plate next and singled to right center and scored Miller. Vin Cosenzo contributed to the hitting tear with a single to left field, bringing Osborne across the plate, 6-3.
- The Mocs picked up one run in the bottom of the half to make the score 6-4.
- The Spartans held on to win 6-4 over the Mocs.
How it happened (Game Two):
- Osborne started the top of the second off by hitting a single to right field. Cosenzo singled through the right side and advanced Osborne to second. Lee hit a sacrifice groundball and advanced all players one base. R. Rivera came up to bat and was walked (3-1). Gaffney came up to the plate and hit a grand slam to put the Spartans up 4-0 in the second.
- In the bottom of the third, the Mocs added three runs to the board and closed the gap.
- The Mocs picked up another run in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game with the Spartans.
- The Spartans had a huge top of the sixth as they scored nine runs, with four homers in the inning alone making the score 13-4.
- The Mocs made a huge comeback in the bottom of the seventh as they picked up five runs.
- L. Rivera started out the top of the ninth with a single to center field and then stole second base. Lee reached on a fielding error by the shortstop scoring L. Rivera, 14-10.
- The Mocs would earn two runs in the bottom of the ninth and made it a close game with the Spartans. But the Mark Moclair came in and earned a save to solidify the Spartans win at 14-12.
Inside the Stats (Game One):
- Miller went 2-5 with four RBI and two runs.
- Cosenzo went 3-5 with one RBI.
Inside the Stats (Game Two):
- Osborne went 4-5 with four RBI and two home runs
- Cosenzo went 2-4 with one RBI and one home run
Beyond the Box:
- Miller hit his 12th home run of the season in game one.
- In game two, four Spartans hit home runs.
- In the top of the ninth (game two) Osborne hit two home runs.
- Moclair earned his first save of the season.
