
Santa Comes to Town for Cinco de Mayo
The University of Tampa baseball team battled Eckerd College and came out victorious.
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 5 University of Tampa Spartans took on the Tritons in game one of the series and kept them scoreless in the 16-0 victory.

How it happened
- The Spartans wasted no time getting hot as they drove in eight runs in the bottom of the first. It started with Kevin Santa being walked on a full count. Laz Rivera came up and reached on a fielder's choice and Santa advanced to third base on a throwing error. J.D. Osborne came up to the plate and doubled to left field and Santa scored. Vin Cosenzo was walked on a full count before Connor Crile came up and singled through the right side scoring Osborne and L. Rivera. Andrew DiLacqua came up and hit a sacrifice fly to left field and scored Cosenzo. Richie Rivera was due up next and doubled to left center and Crile scored. Nick DeTringo hit an RBI single that drove in another run. Santa came up to bat again and homered to right field making the score 8-0 in the bottom of the first.
- Both teams remained scoreless until the fourth inning when the Spartans scored another six runs to increase their lead to 14-0.
- The Spartans picked up two more runs in the bottom of the eighth after DiLacqua hit a two RBI homer to center field. The Tritons remained scoreless as the Spartans won 16-0.
Inside the Stats
- DeTringo went 3-4 with one RBI with two runs
- DiLacqua went 2-3 with six RBI and two home runs
- Santa went 1-1 with two RBI and one home run
Beyond the Boxscore:
- DiLacqua hit two home runs to increase his count to six on the season
- Jordan Leasure picked up his first save of the season
- The Spartans need one more win to clinch the Sunshine State Conference title
